Module3.1

This week we assessed the effects of scale on vector data, and the basic resolution effects on raster data. The scale of vector data dictates the amount of detail, shape and size of the mapped area. In this lab we looked at three resolution layers for watershed flowlines and waterbodies: regular, high and medium resolutions. These were in a 1:1200, 1:24000 and 1:100000 respectively. The calculated area and perimeter values changed greatly between each scale. The larger the scale and higher resolution, the larger the perimeter and area. We also looked at voting district gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is a manipulation of voting boundaries so as to favor one party or class.
