Interpolation is a method to estimate values at locations that do not have data measurements. This week we used interpolation tools to visualize water quality data in Tampa Bay. To do this we used Thiessen, IDW, and spline, regular and tension. First the biochemical biochemical oxygen demand measurements were transitioned into gradient value colors. Then the tools were applied and the overlay of points to interpolation layer was checked for accuracy. Pictured is the regularized spline interpolation. Regularizing the spline creates a smooth gradient between gradually changing values.
