This week we used the coordinate systems Albers, UTM, and State Plane to view the area in square miles of four counties in Florida. Miami-Dade county had a difference of almost 20 miles between the Albers and UTM 16 N systems. When toggling between map views of the coordinate systems, Florida was more or less angled and county borders were slightly changed. After creating the map set, the UWF campus was applied. In the Albers map the campus pinned off the coast instead of in Escambia County, but correctly loaded in the UTM map. This exercise highlighted the need to use consistent projections when comparing the spatial analysis of multiple datasets.
